This year, it’s World Games year!

The world’s best athletes in non-Olympic disciplines of 27 sports practised on land, in the water or in the air will meet and compete at the World Games in Wroclaw, Poland, from 20 to 30 July 2017. This major multi-sport event is organised at quadrennial intervals, in the years following the Olympic Summer Games.

This 10th edition will take place over a period of 11 days, to kick off with an Opening Ceremony which will also be attended by the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach. Whilst the Lausanne based International World Games Federation (IWGA) is the owner of the event, the preparations and staging of the different editions are trusted to Local Organising Committees formed by the host city and entities such as the regional and national governments, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) and other sporting authorities.

Founded in 1980, the IWGA is a non-governmental, non-profit making international organisation under Swiss law. A sport partner of ThinkSport, it is also recognised by the IOC and counts 37 International Sports Federations (IFs) as members. Just this week, IWGA moved its headquarters to Avenue de la Gare in Lausanne to have more space.
