Dear friends of sport,

I hope you had a smooth start into the New Year! If you would like to remain curious, adventurous and open to fresh ideas in 2019, it would be a pleasure for us to team up with you for the second edition of THE SPOT. Our sport and innovation event will come back to the SwissTech Convention Center in Lausanne from 28 to 29 May and we are working hard on creating an enjoyable and beneficial experience for each and every participant.

We have just announced a line-up of brilliant speakers and one of them, Mounir Zok, the co-founder and managing director at N3XT Sports, a global sports consulting firm that specialises in innovation, technology, and investment strategy, is featured extensively in this newsletter. Last week, we also published the comprehensive conference themes of THE SPOT, which explore innovations in expanding the potential of the human athlete; in the creation and development of new materials, products and business models; in sports entertainment and fan engagement as well as the social impact of sports innovation and evolving lifestyles. Click here to learn more and to secure your early bird ticket.

Detailed information for start-ups keen to join in THE SPOT will follow soon. What we can already tell is that this year’s start-up battle will involve about 80 young companies over two days and that there will be many other opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs.

This first newsletter of the year also highlights the work of local art school students in Lausanne who designed the Lausanne 2020 mascot, launched on the occasion of the one-year-to-go event last month. The preparations for the Winter Youth Olympic Games in our region have definitely stimulated collaboration between different sectors. The Lausanne 2020 organisers will join THE SPOT to explore and present innovative solutions for what will be the next major sports event at our door steps.

In addition, we take the opportunity to inform you that the start-up Peerspoint SA has just obtained a major investment. This upcoming SaaS Blockchain start-up will venture with Business Investigation SA to adapt and deploy their GPS machine learning and predictive analysis solution across the sport and leisure industries. THE SPOT will provide them with a platform to present their new solution.

We look forward to working with you on a range of different, exciting projects in 2019!

Yours,
Anna Hellman, Director of ThinkSport
