The General directorate of Higher Education (DGES; Direction générale de l’enseignement supérieur) is responsible for the policies and the strategy of the Canton of Vaud with regards to higher education. The grouping of all the institutes of higher education of the canton – University, University of Applied Sciences and Arts and Lausanne University of Teacher Education – under a single authority allows for a stronger coordination and collaboration between the various types of institutes of higher education, while at the same time ensuring the respect of the specific characteristics and goals of each school.
