Football Innovation Platform launches “Reimagine Football 2021” challenge

Want to collaborate with leading European football organisations? Do you have the sustainable solution they are looking for? Then this challenge may be for you! The Football Innovation Platform - which UEFA is a part of – looks for solutions on the following themes:

  1. ‘Go Green’ - Greener Mobility | How can we track and/or reduce the carbon footprint of fans travelling to, and from, stadiums and/or amateur clubs?
  2. ‘Why Waste’ - Circular Waste Streams | How can we reduce litter and make waste streams (plastics, unsold inventory, and/or other types of waste) more circular in and outside of the stadium and/or amateur clubs?

The Process
From 2 November to 14 December, you are invited to submit your solutions on the open innovation platform. On the platform, experts will work with you to improve your solution and to explore a potential fit with the Football Innovation Platform. The teams with the most promising solutions are invited to join the Collaboration in the week of 10 January, live in Amsterdam. Here, selected organisations and their solutions will be chosen to continue to work with the Football Innovation Platform and enter the trial phase.

During the trial phase, you have the opportunity to work with the various leading organisations in global football, as equal partners to implement and showcase your current solution.

Who can join the challenge?
The Football Innovation Platform is primarily looking for first-class solutions, whether they are from startups, scale-ups, small to medium enterprises, or larger organisations. First-class solutions should be able to be implemented and have the opportunity to be further developed. Participants can sign up on the platform as an individual and submit a solution as an individual or as part of a team/organisation.

About the Football Innovation Platform
European football organisations, including the KNVB, the Johan Cruijff ArenA, UEFA, City Football Group, and AFC Ajax, have joined forces to tackle joint challenges in the football industry. The organisations, united under the flag ‘Football Innovation Platform’, organise three innovation challenges per year. In 2020, these organisations hosted a challenge on helping football to recover and grow beyond the impact of COVID-19 on football.
