New Data Protection Regulations: what YOU need to know

How will the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the New Swiss Act on Data Protection (LPD) affect sport organisations, athletes, event managers and the transfer of medical data in the area of anti-doping? A dedicated half-day workshop, organised jointly by Wiz-Team, Libra Law, in association with ThinkSport, will be held on 26 March 2018 in Lausanne to offer important guidance on this complex topic. In particular, the following items will be addressed:

  • Explanation of the legal framework of new GDPR and LPD (Michel Jaccard from id est advocats)
  • Impact on Sport, International Federations and the application to athletes’ consent (Jorge Ibarrola from Libra Law)
  • GDPR implementation and related IT challenges (Wiz-Team)

The workshop will also feature a number of external experts and present interesting case studies.

Described by many as the most important change in data privacy regulation in 20 years, the GDPR will be enforced as of 25 May 2018 and the new LPD between August 2018 and the beginning of 2019. Organisations in non-compliance may face heavy fines. The GDPR replaces the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC and was designed to harmonise data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens’ data privacy and to reshape the way organisations across the region approach data privacy. The new LPD will replace the current LPD adopted in 1992, following many innovations provided by the GRPD.

The workshop is free of charge, but registration is obligatory. Places are limited, with a certain number reserved for ThinkSport members, as well as Wiz-Team and Libra Law clients. Contact us to register.
