Meet your sport buddy with new app Smatch

You need a sport buddy to get off the couch and moving? Find them on Smatch, a brand new app developed by two students from the Lausanne based EPFL (Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) and HEC (Faculté des hautes études commerciales de l'université de Lausanne).

“Our cutting edge matchmaking technology enables you to meet your sport buddy with your level and in your area via a few clicks” explains Gaspard Chevassus, one of the two creative minds behind Smatch. He adds: “Connecting on Smatch is easy and fun, just select the sports you love, set your skill level and start Smatching. For more than 70 sports, you can quickly find new buddies around you to practice the sports you love. And it’s all for free.”

Smatch is a good way to expand your network, meet locals and make new friends through sports.

His colleague and co-creator of Smatch, Kévin Gaspar, says: “Smatch takes full advantage of new technology in the virtual world to promote physical activity and fun in the real world.Just smatch, chat online with your new buddies, then step away from your phone, meet up in the real world and enjoy your activities with like-minded people. It’s safe, easy, and takes just seconds.”

After a few months of intense development work and testing with local clubs, universities and companies, the product went to market this summer. The project was financially supported by the City of Lausanne and external investor Phida Invest, which is also specialised in sport marketing and event management.

In order to extend the reach and use of their app as quickly as possible, Gaspar and Kévin have partnered with more than ten universities across Switzerland and are currently discussing new opportunities with fitness clubs and chains.
