European Space Agency issues two sport related calls

Innovative space enabled products and services are also making an impact in sports! The European Space Agency (ESA) recently launched two calls which aim to exploit space assets to broaden the access to sport and inclusion; and to support the digital transformation and sustainability of the sport sector, specifically in the organisation, management, and further exploitation of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

KickStart Call for Proposal “Inclusive and Accessible Sport”

The objective of this funding call is to foster the development of innovative applications for Inclusive and Accessible Sport. Solutions/services could broadly address any of the key topics: Enhancing performance, Building resilience, Digital engagement for all and Inclusive and accessible sports equipments by integrating satellite communications and other space assets such as Earth observation, Satellite Navigation, and Human Spaceflight technologies with terrestrial and digital technologies. Thematic Call “Space for Olympic Games”

The aim of this funding call is to support new space-based services for the digital transformation and sustainability of the sport sector, specifically in the organisation, management, and further exploitation of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It primarily targets the next Games in Europe - Paris 2024 and Milano Cortina 2026, with the ambition of providing services for the future Games as well, ensuring continuity of the sustainability model.

Topics of interest have been derived from interactions with the Olympic Committees and with main service providers of the Games, and include among others: Sustainability, Smart Management of the Event, Engagement with Fans, Performance: Athletes’ preparation and training, plus specific use cases provided by private companies.
