HESAV - University of Health Sciences
The University of Health Sciences (HESAV) is, with some 1,000 students, the largest applied university for health studies in Western Switzerland. Part of the network of Universities of Applied Sciences and Arts of Western Switzerland (HES-SO), the school offers studies at the tertiary/university level. It trains health professionals in the fields of nursing, physiotherapy, midwifery, and radiography. Its professorial body is made of health care professionals as well as experts in the social sciences and biomedical sciences.
Represented by physiotherapy students and others in the HESAV community, the school takes part in numerous sporting events, providing advice and care to athletes or directly participating.
For several years, HESAV has developed training and research projects relating sports, physical activity and health to healthy, sick and handicapped populations. On the strength of this first expertise, HESAV decided to create a Skills Centre in “Health, Physical activity and Sports”. The Centre’s mission is to develop research projects demonstrating the impact of sport and physical activity on various populations; to provide teaching for sports professionals as well as the public at large; to ensure support and follow-up for athletes in training; and to participate in various competitions. To this end, HESAV collaborates with other applied universities in the Canton of Vaud and the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), notably its Centre for Sports Medicine.
