SmartTextiles

Development of devices integrated into textiles

Development of devices integrated into textiles.

CSEM has been active for many years in the development of devices integrated into textiles, so-called smart textiles. These development efforts initially targeted health-care applications but a sport version has also been produced to respond to growing interest from the sporting sector. The basic signals monitored—with sensors—are 3-D accelerations, thoracic dilatation, and 1-lead ECG. The system is able to process these signals in real time and provide information related to physical, respiratory, and cardiac activity. Ongoing research is exploring the possibility of estimating stress levels and sleep quality.

Male and female system versions are available. To improve both comfort and security (especially for contact sports) the electronic module can be fixed to the shirt at different locations (e.g., sternum, shoulder, back…)
