PulseWatch
A heart-rate monitoring watch.
The PulseWatch device is based on CSEM's patented vital sign monitoring technology, which uses a multi-parameter opto-inertial measurement technique. Though the basic approach is straightforward, engineers had to improve measurement quality significantly to make it competitive with data generated by standard ECG-based monitors. This meant increasing signal quality and precision by improving both opto-mechanical aspects and the design of optical sensors as well as refining electronic and multi-channel processing aspects linked to power consumption and the size of the wrist device. PulseOn, a start-up spun out from Nokia in 2012, has collaborated with CSEM to develop a small and stylish wrist device that allows users to monitor their heart rate accurately and reliably during training and beyond. The PulseOn wrist devices, available in several colors are already on the market. Since 2014, PulseON has founded a R&D subsidiary in Neuchâtel in order to intensify the collaboration with CSEM on smart watches. In April 2015, the PulseOn team was honoured at the Red Herring Europe Award (www.redherring.com): the start-up was selected as a winner in Red Herring Top 100 Europe finals thanks to its technological innovation, management strength, market size, investor record, customer acquisition, and financial health. www.euro.pulseon.com
