Development of a tracking and visualisation system to follow skiers trajectory.
The LCAV developed a system to track a downhill skier's 3D position throughout a race, and visualize his performance in a virtual environment by the means of 3D computer graphics.
The skier's position was acquired through the latest in GPS technology delivered by IGEO-TOPO. For this purpose, the skier is equipped with a high performance GPS antenna and receiver, which gathers his position 10 times a second at a precision of 10 cm.
Once the data was gathered, it was processed for allowing the visualization of the skier's trajectory in a realistic high-resolution reconstruction of the surroundings of the real racetrack.
