Analysis of the Dynamical Behavior of the Structure
Within EPFL-Hydros project, development of simulation methods to represent the combined dynamic behavior or the boats and the foils.
Aiming for pure power is only one aspect. The combined action of the structure and the foils is also an essential component of the boat's performance.
EPFL's Laboratory of Applied Mechanics and Reliability Analysis (LMAF) developed new simulation methods that can represent the combined dynamic behavior of the boat and the foils. These methods also help determine the deformations and the stresses generated in the structure during normal or extreme sailing conditions.
This in turn enables the team to define the navigable limits of the sailboat and identify improvements that could be made. These results will be tested on the l'Hydroptère.ch platform in a later stage.
