OBESENSE: Portable ECG Device
Development of a small and portable ECG to measure activity and stress.
Research project conducted with the CHUV (Academic Hospital Center of Vaud) and CSEM. The project consists in continuously monitoring all day long the physical activities of different types of person: athlete, people having a little physical practice and people with no physical activities.
The goal is to determine the level of reaction to physical activity and nutrition to get a general state of health of the individuals. In the end we would like to answer the question: how can physical activities complement better nutrition to be in better shape in daily life? Three different types of person were studied. Concerning the athletes in particular, it is checked if they are physically active and the creation of stress if they do not enhance their capabilities with the training. On the contrary, in people with an average level of physical practice we have shown a clear reduction of their daily stress when performing a regular physical activity. For obese people, regular sport exercise is compulsory to reduce the overweight, but it can cause stress as well.
The ESL developed the device and analysis algorithms used to measure the cardiovascular level (ECG delineation and noise filtering) and activity level, as well as estimation of the level of stress.
